Tahini, Date, and Collagen Shake

This tahini shake packs a punch. It’s full of those good fats that keep your brain working. It’s loaded with spices to ease inflammation and digestion. I sipped on this conscious indulgence Tuesday before tackling some speed work on the treadmill. Conscious indulgence, don’t ya love that term. I heard it from Today show dietician, Joy Bauer. Essentially it means a yummy tasting treat made with quality, healthy ingredients. I’d say this blended bev fits the bill.

The surprising star of the shake, Tahini. 

Tahini is a paste or butter made from ground sesame seeds. It is rich in magnesium, potassium, and iron. Tahini is also high in unsaturated fat, that’s the good kind. It helps with brain health, so don’t let the high calorie count scare you. The argument could be made that this shake would be the optimal post run treat. I agree!

You may have noticed I used collagen powder here instead of my typical protein. Well, collagen is full of the stuff. It builds muscle instead of fat, eases joint pain, and improves skin and digestion. I’ll take it! Consider blending this up during your next sugar craving!


1/2 fresh banana

1/2 cup ice

2 dates, pitted

1 cup unsweetened almond milk

1 1/2 tbsp tahini

1/2 tbsp turmeric

1/2 – 1 tbsp cinnamon

1 tsp ground clove

Pinch of sea salt

1 scoop Vital Protein, Collagen Beauty Greens (plant based)
